So, for all of you who used to listen to top 40 music, and still must do so thanks to your kids, we have round 1 of "Song vs. Song". Why? Because they are two of the new songs that Running In Circles is practicing for upcoming gigs.
Old Song: Play That Funky Music, circa 1976.
New Song: Let's Get It Started, circa 2004. (Warning, video is PG to R)
Who is the winner (based on song only, not video)?

If I was forced to choose, I'd choose b. But then I got bored fairly early in the video. But yet again, I don't think I'm your target audience.
I found both of the songs to be headache inducing : ) That repetitive, underlying, throbbing beat drove me nuts. The first song had to be the same 2 measures played a gazillion times. The second song raps be up side the head and makes me want to scream stop! If I had to vote, I wouldn't : )
I'm not your target audience either : )
How about asking a much yonger audience. Thoese older people don't know much about New generation music. They all think it sounds the same.LOL
Sorry had to speak my mind. I think they both sounded fine.
Krazy,
I meant to do that. It's like asking a 13yo who is better, Frank Sinatra or Tom Jones.
I wouldn't exactly call a song from 1976 New Generation music. I've just always hated it! :) I don't know if I'm your target audience just because I like a harder sound than I think you guys are going for.
Black Eyed Peas, for sure.
Who's gonna do the rap? You?

Wild Cherry Rocks!
Scott, you pose a very interesting question that I cannot yet answer.
Take your pick, five white boys - as suburban as you can get - trying to rap. It should make for a good scene.
I'll let y'all know in which gig it makes the set list.
"And the bass keeps runnin, runnin, and runnin, runnin...."
I vote for Wild Cherry. In fact, I have that song on a "Best of '76" cd and have played it several times this week. It's just a "good times" song. You do have "Afternoon Delight' on your playlist, don't you?
Let's Get it Started has too many breaks in the rhythm to be truly danceable and has become sort of cliche as the first song to play at a wedding reception, etc.
Isn't your target audience people in your own age bracket? Then you must play songs that have memories.
Isn't your target audience people in your own age bracket?
For the most part, yes. However, for the "dance club" type venues, it'll be more 20-30 year old bracket. We are walking the fine line between "wedding band" and somewhat contemporary/dance. I like our song mix so far.
Well, I like the Black Eyed Peas better. =P The song does get kind of boring sometimes but it's better than "Play that Funky music" and you dont get the really annoying parts stuck in your head as easily with Black Eyed Peas either =P
